From Sunset to Sunrise
by Ish Ait Hamou
The sun sat quietly. The birds flew for a last time in front of the
orange shades sinking in the ocean. A breeze carrying the perfume of a
thousand flowers that it met during its journey, stroke our bodies,
giving colors to our senses.
Our feet buried deep in the white sand ,
balancing us while the water rose and
bowed down to our feet. We looked towards tomorrow, towards what we knew
would be the end of us, but we stood on today, where we believed in
forever.
Then the stars came reminding us that even the death of
something can shine and spark for an eternity. The crashing waves muted
our heaves of sighs. Covering the only signs of pain we could not hide.
I
brought her closer to me, settling her into her safe haven. A tear
manifested itself, called by gravity, it caressed her cheek then fell
into the ocean. Believing that an ocean was made out of tears from lost
loves, we contributed to its magnitude. She wiped the beginnings of
mine away before it could fully grow into a tear, a gesture asking me to
be the stronger person. To end our union on a smile. I let her do so
before I let another tear express itself, explaining her that mine was
not one pain but of joy. It was me being thankful for everything life
had given us and what she had given me. If there was anything more that I
could offer , my tear was it. That was all I had left.
We
kissed like it was our last kiss, because it was our last kiss. We
looked up, as the stars, saddened by the events slowly focused their
look elsewhere. Slowly disappearing. The moon yawned as the sun rose.
The water, that had given us the time to say goodbye was now on commands
of mother nature, flooding up to our necks.
We still, face to face,
body to body, looked in each other's eyes, as the last wave closed the
curtains. I never let go of her, neither did she. We loved each other...
From the high lands to the bottom of the ocean.
